RECOLLECTING FRAGMENTS
Recollecting Fragments tests film’s merit as a method in the landscape design process through direct experimentation with the medium itself. The process generated four films, each of which functions as an analog for a different stage in the design process.
The Bayview Hunters-Point served as a subject for testing film’s application as a design tool in underrepresented communities facing gentrification. The project seeks to assert the neighbor-hood’s storied past into the collective memory of San Francisco.
Remnant urban space, or fragmented pieces of land have resulted in the neighborhood’s public right-of-way from changing land use patterns over time. The project reimagines these five neglected sites as valuable mnemonic devices, working collectively to memorialize the community’s past.
